Former Michigan Athlete of the Week: Charles Woodson

Charles Woodson
Charles Woodson had 4 tackles, 1 interception, 1 pass breakup, and a fumble recovery that he returned 25 yards for a touchdown as the Oakland Raiders beat the San Diego Chargers by a score of 27-17.

Honorable mention: New York Giants free safety Ryan Mundy had 15 tackles and 2 tackles for loss in a 36-21 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. New York Jets inside linebacker David Harris had 14 tackles in a 30-28 win over the Atlanta Falcons.

  1. I think Charles Woodson is now tied for most defensive touchdowns with 13.

  2. Magnus, is it a bad thing that a safety is making 15 tackles in a game? I would think you would want a LB or a DL with that stat, not your safety. Thanks for the updates!

    1. It's pretty rare that safeties make 15 tackles in a game, and yes, that's typically a bad thing. However, they were playing against the Eagles - a team that likes to push the pace and run a lot of plays - so that might account for some elevated tackle numbers all around.
