2013 MSA Sports Elite Eleven: Chase Winovich

Chase Winovich was named one of the elite eleven players in western Pennsylvania, along with other Michigan targets like Dravon Henry (West Virginia, Malik Hooker (Ohio State), and Montae Nicholson (undecided).

  1. Unrelated to Winovich, but we just lost five-star George Campbell from Florida. Few days ago I said how winning is so important to recruiting, and got hated on for saying such a thing. At least Nick Baumgardner (recruiting analyst) agrees with me.

@nickbaumgardner I mean -- when you go 7-5, it's hard to hang on to top 5 players. Too many other options, other coaches, neg recruiting. Just reality.

  2. That's why hoke needs to go. He is in over his head.

    1. Hoke needs to go...because his replacement will be able to pull in a top five player who's willing to come to a 7-5 team with a coaching staff in flux? That doesn't seem logical.

  3. I suppose I could say something about football. Or I could stare at what's framed in that window. Wow.

    1. The latter is probably a much better use of your time.

  4. Really dont understand people's rationale on firing Hoke, You want to fire the guy that lead us to our first win over Ohio in years, a BCS bowl win and Good recruiting. The moment things go wrong everyone starts knocking on Hoke or Gardner or Borges...I'll be honest I am on the Bandwagon for replacing Borges for some questionable calling this year(Especially 2 reverses in a row against Iowa i believe), but Hoke is a Great personality that recruits love, hes a quality individual to see at the head of the program and he actually has not done that bad with what he has. Two freshmen and a walk on in the middle of your line is a very steep hill to climb, and even in this year(Hoke's worst regualr season) we are miles better than RichRod's best year. Gardner got 5 games last year and played well, he got a full schedule this year and for all our complaining what has he done? Threw for nearly 3,000 yds(which many said was inconceivable) at a 60% comp percentage and 21 TD's along with his 11 rushing and near 500yds. and guess what hes coming back, what a luxery it will be having a 5th year senior QB that can throw the ball and a line that doesnt have a single freshmen on it. We were never going to win the national title this year, but we ARE on our way back up. We miss Gallon and Lewan the most and Schofield was quality (at times) but we also add a healthy Jake Ryan, our #2 Receiver coming out of Spring(Darboh), Our #2 receiver during season(Funchess) a good QB, a Good stable of Backs, an actual TE and all of our LB's, a sturdy D-Line and Ball hawking Blake Countess coupled with Wilson at a Safety slot where he had 2 picks from as a true Soph. and we havent even broken into the new recruits or any surprises that always seem to happen in the offseason. Half full-Half empty, take your pick but I am certainly looking forward to next years group with Hoke at the helm again we probably wont blaze the nation but we wont be a main stay at the BW3's bowl either. So sit back have a beer and some wings and relax...no one is getting fired and you can thank Hoke next year when Peppers dons the deuce and strikes the pose against Ohio St.

  5. Hoke is not going anywhere, hes built up a program on the rise and we took a step forward this year with a young team, pump your brakes and look at what we have coming back: 5th yr. QB with about 3000 pass yds 21 TDs at 60% comp and about 500yds rushing with 11 more TDs, a good stable of backs, #2 Receiver coming into the year(Darboh) and #2 in season (Funchess) and Chesson developing, no Freshmen on the O-Line, Sturdy D-Line, Great LB's(a healthy 5th year Ryan included), Ball hawking Blake and a quality Wilson and we have yet to see the recruits suit up or the freshmen from this year develop. People want to look at meyer and say hes great because he is winning...he may be a great coach and a recruiter but he hasn't won a game for Ohio St. yet, He can personally send all his credit to Jim Tressel's senior line(minus decker who got miller sacked several times), Tank of a RB Hyde, dynamic QB Miller, every wide-out that plays, Shazier, Grant, Grant, Roby....basically the whole OSU roster that starts minus Decker and the D-Line...evryone wants to praise him because he is winning but he has yet to win the B1G which is supposedly weak, has a bowl game pending but never won one of those at Ohio either. Is Meyer the sole or even a huge reason they are winning...hell no, He just had the luxery of a Senior/Junior ladened team...thats what happens when you have more than 3 Sr's on the field at one time. More intrigued to see what he does this year especially if Miller and Shazier leave cause that means he actually has to play his own recruits(Barret a RS FR coming off of knee surgery, a RB that isnt even pushing 190, brand new OL, a solid D-Line, young LB's, and a secondary that has seen 1 start at nickle by Powell and the consistently burned Reeves who has 4 starts) Idk about you guys but so far Hoke's worst team based on record loses to Meyer's best by 1 point...things are changing and Michigan is taking steps forward, not huge steps but still forward. The Future is bright.
