Recruiting Update: July 20, 2015

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2016
Allen (TX) Allen offensive tackle Greg Little decommitted from Texas A&M. He's a 247 Composite 5-star, the #1 offensive tackle, and #2 overall. It seems a little odd that Little is decommitting from the Aggies with their steady recent history of producing top draft picks at the offensive tackle position. Also, the school he will probably commit to now, Alabama, offered him back in January, so it's not like it's a new offer for which he had been waiting. Regardless, Michigan has no shot here.

Hit the jump for a few players who committed elsewhere and some miscellaneous bits.

OFF THE BOARD
Harbor City (CA) Narbonne wide receiver Devaughn Cooper committed to Arizona. Cooper's teammate, Alex Akingbulu, is one of the few linemen Michigan is still recruiting, but it is a tough battle with UCLA.

Navasota (TX) Navasota wide receiver Tren'Davian Dickson committed to Texas. This was a surprise, since most people expected him to pick Texas A&M. Michigan offered back in May but never really got a shot. As a junior in 2014, Dickson had 90 catches for an astounding 2,166 yards and 39 touchdowns.

Salt Lake City (UT) Brighton wide receiver Simi Fehoko committed to Stanford. Fehoko had Michigan in his top five but never visited before choosing the Cardinal. He's the 247 Composite #44 wideout and #245 overall.

Roswell (GA) Roswell linebacker Tre Lamar committed to Clemson. Michigan offered him in early May, but he did not express much interest in the Wolverines.

Powder Springs (GA) McEachern tight end Christian Roberson committed to Mississippi State. Just like the others in today's update so far, Michigan never really got a chance.

MISCELLANEOUS
Houston (TX) Westside defensive tackle Jordan Elliott said he will take an official visit to Michigan. The U.S. Army All-American is a 247 Composite 4-star, the #12 defensive tackle, and #94 overall. He was previously committed to Baylor and is now committed to Houston, so his recruitment has been an interesting one so far.

Osiris St. Brown, a 2017 wide receiver, and 2018 brother Amon-Ra St. Brown have transferred from Anaheim (CA) Servite to Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei. Osiris already holds an offer from Michigan, and Mater Dei is the home of 2016 prospects Curtis Robinson (Stanford) and Frank Martin (USC), both of whom have been offered by Michigan.

There had been rumors that Auburn safety Derrick Moncrief would be transferring to Michigan, and he was given a release to come to Ann Arbor. However, he enrolled at Oklahoma State. He was not a grad transfer, so he has to sit out the 2016 season, anyway.

Springhill (LA) North Webster linebacker Devin White named a top ten that does not include Michigan.

  1. your writeup on Tren'Davian Dickson seems to say it was a surprise that he did what was expected. Something is wrong there. Not sure the value of these recruiting updates on guys we were never in the running though. I appreciate your insight on Michigan recruits though. Keep up good work

    1. Oops. He was expected to pick Texas A&M. I left "A&M" out. Thanks.

Michigan has offered 233 players in the 2016 recruiting cycle. I do writeups on them whenever anything significant happens (commitment, decommitment, offer, etc.). Ultimately, this hasn't been a very active week in the Michigan recruiting circle. There's not much I can do about that unless I wait two or three weeks, and then it becomes a 10,000 word post that crimps up my fingers. So I generally do the posts once a week, regardless, unless some event gets in the way (vacation, illness, etc.).

  2. Thoughts on what happened with Moncrief? Seemed to be a "lock" to UM for a while - then the whole thing got weird...and then to end up at a different O$U...just odd man.
