I found this post from Smart Football to be an interesting read. As a high school coach, sometimes you come across quarterbacks who don't necessarily have the arm strength to beat Cover Two deep to the outside, which is where that coverage is particularly vulnerable. Corner routes and go routes can be iffy, so you're somewhat limited to throwing over the middle and short to the outside. The "delayed slant" concept gives you a different option to beat that coverage without putting up a 50-50 ball downfield.
