Recruiting Update: November 26, 2012

Corona (CA) Centennial offensive lineman Cameron Hunt might be in line for a Michigan offer (image via ESPN)
ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2013
Avon (IN) Avon defensive end Elijah Daniel decommitted from Clemson.  He and Robert Nkemdiche had been committed to the Tigers for months, but Nkemdiche decommitted several weeks ago and Daniel had always had a wandering eye.  Michigan still isn't back in the mix for Daniel, but he's a free agent once again.

OFF THE BOARD
Indianapolis (IN) North Central defensive tackle Darius Latham committed to Indiana.  Latham had previously been committed to Wisconsin, but he and a few other in-state guys are going to try to stick together with the Hoosiers and get that program to a competitive level.

MISCELLANEOUS
Michigan's assistant coaches will be having in-home visits with a lot of prospects this week.  Two potential offerees who are receiving visits include Phoenix (AZ) Mountain Pointe offensive guard Kenny Lacy and Corona (CA) Centennial offensive guard Cameron Hunt.  Both are Rivals 4-stars who play left tackle in high school, but they look more like interior players to me.  Hunt is committed to Cal but is open to other schools, especially now that head coach Jeff Tedford has been fired.  These two are potential replacements for offensive guard David Dawson, who decommitted from Michigan due to a desire to visit Florida.

Here's a list of kids who visited Ohio State's campus for Saturday's game.

Check out the Recruit Tracker series to see how Michigan's commits did this season.

  1. I'm glad they're going after another OL. Keep bringing them in until that position group is stabilized. Schofield's the only proven player and he'll be a senior next year.

I don't get going for more LBs or depth WRs when there is so much uncertainty at OL and no depth at QB.

    1. I agree.

What we need is a an elite WR or RB. If we cant land Treadwell or Green than go after some more OL. We have enough 3 star WR's!

Speaking of Nkemdiche, when was the last time we landed a 5 star DE? I know Ojemudia and Strobel were ranked high but neither was a 5 star. You would think with our coaching staff being D-line experts we would be in on some of these elite DE's.

    2. IIRC, the last time we got a 5-star kid who played DE was Brandon Graham, although he was a LB in high school.

    3. Larry Stevens? He was pretty highly regarded when he was a recruit. Other guys were considered LBs: Crable and Woodley were big-time recruits listed at LB. Tim Jamison, Eugene Germany...Michigan did a pretty good job getting edge/rush players until Carr fell off a bit in the mid 00's. Other than a couple local kids (Van Bergen, Graham) Carr didn't deliver much in the '05-08 classes. Rodriguez deliverd Roh, Lalota and Wilins in '09 and '10 and Beyer in '11 but Lalota flaimed out almost right away and Wilkins hasn't left the bench.

But yeah - not really any 5-star DEs in the bunch, but a number of high end 4-stars, most notably Woodley (who everyone knew was headed to DE.)

  2. I like Hunt as a prospect. He appears to be a late bloomer with a good head on his shoulders. Has the makings of an athletic, interior OL.
